Moment of Truth

A few weeks ago we reached a very important milestone: after months of work our monocoque was unveiled. Up until then it had been closed inside its negative moulds. Since nobody knew exactly what quality the monocoque would display, the anticipation was high. Under the eyes of the whole team the two halves of the mould were removed with gentle force. The joy and relief was huge: the monocoque presented itself in a very satisfactory form which reflects the solid planning and careful work of our chassis crew. Thanks to the help of the whole team and a good transfer of knowledge over the years the quality of the monocoque has constantly been improved and mistakes have been avoided.

Assembly

The completion of the monocoque marks the beginning of the approximately one-month assembly phase. All components are built on and into the monocoque and step by step pilatus will assume the shape of a racing car. Considering that thirty team members want to attach their parts to the car, it is easy to see how important careful planning of the assembly is. Thus, the entire assembly was analyzed beforehand and broken down into the individual steps.

Open Day

Although pilatus has yet to master its first ride, the AMZ is already looking ahead to the next season. In order to present the project to potential future team members, an Open Day was held in the team’s workshop. Just under a hundred attendees underline the great interest in the Formula Student Electric project. At various stations, current team members explained the diversity of work in AMZ. The attendees got an insight into the engineering tools involved in the project and were able to test their own skills by laminating simple carbon parts for pilatus. In the course of the subsequent barbecue, the guests got the chance to listen to the team member’s experiences and their questions were answered.
